UnionBook

The social network for trade unionists - a LabourStart project.

I received this today from the people behind the excellent UnionJobs website:

During this past month it has come to the attention of the international union community that there is a new website where union job openings are being posted. Even though this is a relatively new site, it has already been populated with close to 120 job announcements. It now appears that this new site (UnionJobBoard.com) was able to so quickly populate their own site by initially copying and pasting a majority of these job announcements directly from UnionJobs.Com in order to present these as "JobBoard" postings, thereby enhancing their appearance when soliciting unions for their business.

In a few cases, UnionJobBoard.com even appears to have lifted job announcements directly off of the websites of a national health care union and a national public sector union in the United States, functionally diverting any resumes that would have been submitted (but were not delivered) to the originating union. To date, Cease and Desist orders are now being issued to UnionJobBoard.com.

Finally, as if this wasn't bad enough, when digging deeper into the UnionJobBoard site, there have been advertisements on this site for building and construction trades training that lead to non-union operations. One such advertisement for "Become an Electrician" ended up being a direct link to a non-union, commercial training operation, and not even to a bona fide union apprenticeship program! Therefore, caveat emptor.

For a reliable site where union job announcements are updated daily and submitted directly from each union, the recommended site within our community is still UnionJobs.Com. UnionJobs.Com has faithfully been posting job announcements for unions and socially allied organizations since 1997.

Well yes we agree this is outrages the web has always had predators of one sort or another. Lets take the positive from this example a strong and building network can direct people of like mind to focus and build our great movement. At the same time educate.

It is a fact that unsuspecting individuals or groups driven by greed will alway take what every is available. This is why organisation is needed.
