Hi Peter,

following up on our talk, below links to solidarity  appeal  with workers in Chung Hong factory in Kobierzyce special economic zone. The appeal is in English and in German.
Chuong Hong is a company owned by a Chinese army investment conglomerat. The factory is assemblying  tv boards  for LG Electronics. (The Kobierzyce SEZ is producing for LG only)
Kobierzyce SEZ is a  branch of  so called Wislosan/ Tarnobrzeska Special Economic Zone. There are 14 special economic zones in Poland, with several hundred  branches throughout the country. (New locations are added per request of investors). The zones are managed by state owned corporations. This particular zone is managed by Agency for Industrial Development (ARP) set up in early 1990s to manage privatization. Government  officials sit on the board of ARP and other corporations that manage the zones. The total size of public aid to investors in the special economic zones has never  been estimated by the government.  Public aid includes tax breaks,  tariff exemptions, direct subsidies, land sold for greenfield investments below market price, infrastructure. According to incomplete data in the period 2007 - 2010  public aid in the zones was in the amount of 1,69 bn euro. (8.1 % of all corporate tax revenue in Poland in the  same period).  Dell alone received   28 million euro nonreturnable subsidy after it moved from Limerick to special economic zone in Lodz (and promptly sold the factory to Foxcon). In 2011 only 39 % jobs have been retained, the rest was temporary. Some jobs are from Monday to Friday, and almost all jobs are via temporary work agencies ( Dutch  Randstadt among them).
Please forward the appeal to your colleagues and networks you have mentioned,
with greetings,
ewa
