Can't say whether it has that status, Ira. But certainly a liberal paper in a quite historial sense.

I have to agree with you Peter. I was not aware of the standing of that paper . If it is the paper of record for SA ruling class, much like the NY Times and Washington Post are of the US ruling class, it was useful to see how they view the issue.

That's OK, Ira, I don't post only things I identify with, as see other commented posts. I sometimes provide material that provokes thought, provides information. This one suggests how the SAfrican equivalent of The Guardian, Le Monde or El Pais sees the matter.

Furthermore the murders by the ANC government of the strikers constitutes a crime against humanity. It is of a totally aggregious nature that nothing short of treating it as such , will mollify the injustice that was done.

I intensely repudiate this editorial. It is framed in a way that assumes first that the hacked NUM steward did not deserve what happened to him. That is YET to be determined. He may well have taunted and insulted the strikers. Since we know not who killed him, it could have been the action of a provocateur.  Beyond that this editorial is stating that Cosatu must "push" the ANC to a different agenda. That is complete crap. A party that has proven through its action that it has it nose so far up the capitalists ass that they will murder striking workers to serve the bosses, mis  a party that must be destroyed poltically and militarily.
