Portuguese CGTP in Solidarity with 7 February General Strike in Greece

Dear Comrades of the Greek trade union movement,

On behalf of the Portuguese workers we represent, the CGTP-IN extends its full and committed solidarity with the general strike you are promoting today, 7 February 2012, in protest against new and brutal austerity measures of your government, and of the foreign troika, among which 20-30% cuts in salaries in the private sector, dismissals for thousands of public employees and a violent attack on collective bargaining rights.

In Portugal we are also stepping up the struggle against the measures contained in the aggression and interference programme of the troika, aided and abetted by the ultraliberal proposals of the Portuguese government.

On Saturday, February 11th, the CGTP-IN will be holding a National Demonstration where masses of workers and people will be saying no to exploitation, to inequalities and impoverishment and demanding new policies.

We shall continue in unity and solidarity in our common struggle to defend our sovereignties and against the policies of economic recession, social and civilization regression and attack on workers and peoples rights and gains.

The struggle continues!
