I am extremely interested in working for the labor movement or a community affiliate in any cappacity. While I do not have direct experience in a paid cappacity, I currently serve as a union delegate in the Savannah Regional Central Labor Council. I have experience with phone banking for labor endorsed candidates, attending central labor council meetings as a delegate, and attending union rallies and informational pickets. This experience gives me the ability to work in related labor union and community organizing environments. I also have experience serving as a volunteer in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. I served as a radio operations volunteer at Air Station Savannah from May 2011 to August 2011. I answered phones for the station and helped with answering the search and rescue line and operated the station radio communiticating with the aircraft during the search and rescue watches. This experience taught me to deal with various stressful situations.
When I am not serving in the central labor council, I perform as a professional bagpiper throughout South Georgia and some areas of South Carolina. I negotiate my own contracts and have experience dealing with corprit management in places I perform as well as individuals that hire me to perform for their events.
I would enjoy talking with any labor union or community affiliate staff about opportunities for office work and/or organizing. I am a motivated union member and union activist and ready to dedicate myself to the labor movement. I am open to any part of the country where I can help the labor movement in this field of work. I am passionate about the labor movement due to the several benefits I have experienced in my union, the American Federation of Musicians Local 447-704, as a member such as a supportive network, liveable wages and secure contracts as a professional musician, and more opportunities to serve the community. I am extremely willing to learn to increase my skills to be even more successful in the labor movement to support fellow workers and help ensure the voices of working people are heard. I am totally visually impaired, but I never let my disability hold me back. I use a computer equipt with a screen reader called System Access that reads what is on screen to me and am always coming up with new ways to be more productive and independent in my current positions. I hope to help your union local or community affiliate in the future. Please feel free to contact me if you have any openings. Thank you so much for your time and have a great day.
In Solidarity,
Alexandria Davis
