Desperate message from musicians of the KBS Symphony Orchestra (Seoul)

A desperate message from musicians working in the KBS Symphony Orchestra in Seoul (Korea):

"KBS has decided to outsource KBS Symphony Orchestra and make it an independent foundation, without any discussion with the musicians and the KBS trade union. This is against the law in Korea. This plan also provides that orchestra members must audition every year to prove their musical ability. The KBSSO will be disbanded on Sept. 1st and KBS will dismiss all musicians who refuse to sign the transfer agreement.

The appointed chairman of the new KBSSO Foundation has a horrible attitude towards orchestra players. He says "artists who participate in labour union cannot move audience's heart".

We demand that KBS

1.withdraw the outsourcing of KBSSO

2. resume the musical season

3. withdraw the disciplinary sanctions towards KBSSO musicians

4. appoint a new chief conductor"

The International Federation of Musicians fully supports KBSSO musicians.
Orchestra conductors must stop harrassing musicians with re-auditions!
