Sorry I have not posted in a long time folks. I have been busy losing weight (lost 60 lbs since June 1st 2012 and plan to lose 30-40 more by the end of June 2013 I have been on the ViSalus Body By Vi 90 Day Challenge and loved it so much I decided to Promote the 90 Day Challenge which between the gym/promoting/work takes up most of my time.

Big Y Foods, a grocery chain in the northeast United States, has announced they will eliminate all self-checkout lanes in their stores by the end of the year at its 58 supermarkets that offer the technology. Big Y first introduced self-checkout lanes in 2003.

On August 28th Local 1518 members at Sofina Foods voted overwhelmingly to reject the company’s most recent offer, an offer which was not endorsed by the Union Negotiating Committee. Over 100 members participated in the Sunday afternoon meeting and vote, sending their employer a very strong message of support for their Union’s effort in negotiations.

UFCW 1518 members employed with Vancouver Native Housing voted August 22 in favour of accepting terms for a new collective agreement.
The new agreement includes wage increases and improvements to contract language.

On August 23, the Union Negotiating Committee for Sofina Foods (Dan McCullough, Andy Woellmer, Al Stewart, assisted by James Raposo, Director of Negotiations) met with representatives of the Company and a mediator from the Labour Relations Board in an effort to negotiate improvements to the previous Employer Offer of June 2, 2011.

Negotiations for a new contract between Overwaitea Food Group (who own PriceSmart Foods) and UFCW 1518 members employed at PriceSmart Foods workers will take place again on September 1-3.
Negotiations last took place in late July, and broke off at that point as the Union Negotiating Committee concluded the employer’s demands in bargaining were unacceptable.
