I wanted to take a moment to let you know what is happeneing in our little corner of labour. The union has been in negotiations with Canada Post since October 2010. The corporation came to the bargaining table with a fountain of roll backs including the elimination of sick time, a right we won in the sixties and the introduction of a two tier contract placing new hires into lower wages and fewer benefits.

In Canada at the post office the workers are facing many changes due to "modernization". Modernization is employer speak for reduced labour and greater profits. As workers it is something we need to deal with, but it is sad and frustrating when the employer, here at the post office takes modernization to a national level before fully understanding the impact the technological changes will have on the workers health and safety.
