This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Blitz. Media including the BBC Breakfast News covered this story on 7 September, the day that Nazi Germany started the assault on London. I learned for the first time that it went on until May 1941. Nor did I know that 57 consecutive night bombings took place during this period. More than 43,000 people were killed. 17 other cities including Birmingham, Bristol and Manchester were also bombed.
