Elected Shop Steward in November of 2008. Still apprehensive about the position. I am pro-labor but I am also very conservative. I do not believe in free handouts and that hard work should be rewarded while slackers need the boot. I believe in rewarding your senior employees, while assisting the new hires increase their knowledge base. I believe in doing what you say and in holding you to it.
I want to see Crowley succeed. I have 19 years invested in this company. That is why I wanted to be a shop Steward, to help Crowley, not let it sink into the oblivion that it is headed to now. By assisting both senior and new members with union/management issues I can possibly increase the retention rate and keep our knowledge base from exiting to better jobs. Many times this is just finding the right contact person to reach, or find the correct paperwork (Lord the paperwork!) to fill out.
