SACKED workers at a Serbian textile factory who are on hunger strike to win arrears of pay have begun cutting off their fingers to support their demands, a newspaper reports. The daily Blic said on Saturday sacked worker Zoran Bulatovic amputated one of his little fingers, and his colleagues had threatened to follow suit in turn every day until their demands were met, starting Monday....The protesters began their hunger strike four days ago after being made redundant by the Raska textile plant at Novi Pazar in southwest Serbia, which once employed 4000 people but now has a workforce of only 100 or so. http://www.b92.net/eng/news/politics-article.php?yyyy=2009&mm=04&dd=25&nav_id=58734

comments: I can see maybe the little toe - but a finger? How can you continue to work without fingers? I guess they are only fighting for back pay. But still, I'd like to see the worker's comp paperwork on that one. I think strikes where you shut down the workplace or occupy the work place are much more effective than finger eatin' strikes. Factory and farm workers get their fingers eaten by machinery all the time - the bosses don't care about worker's friggin' fingers!
when it came to hungerstrikes and protestsucide and stuff my grandma (who was a camp survivor) always said "dont do the guards work for them". i agree with her, why not chop the finger of the boss instead?

Adiel: How can you defend a country where 5 percent of the people control 95 percent of the wealth?
Lisa: I'm defending a country where people can think and act and worship any way they want!
Adiel: Cannot!
Lisa: Can to!
Adiel: Cannot!
Lisa: Can to!
Homer: Please, please, kids; stop fighting. Maybe Lisa is right about America being the land of opportunity, maybe Adiel has a point about the machinery of capitalism being oiled with the blood of the workers. (327 days ago)
