Cafeteria workers are on strike at the Hugh John Flemming Forestry Centre in Fredericton, one of the federal government's "Centres of Excellence".

There's six of them. The actual employer is Aramark, a mulitnational food service, laundry and cleaning service company we see all over the place.

Please send CUPE 3372 a message of support.

CUPE has a new strike: five library workers in Grand Forks BC

Five library workers, members of CUPE 2254 are on strike in Grand Forks BC

How's this for a cute management tactic:

  1. Table a bunch of proposals which, basically take away fifteen years of bargaining process
  2. Lock your staff out for a day while you...
  3. Notify the board that you're anulling the collective agreement then...
  4. Reopen the library and invite your colleagues back in under the terms you presented in step one.

Nice huh? We see a fair number of these sorts of strikes where a small group of workers in a small town are bullied around by an employer who figures no one will notice. Most CUPE locals have fewer than 100 members and we have more than 2200 locals. So we're in almost every tiny town in Canada. And the big ones too. But those strikes you notice.

Anyway it's our job to make sure the employer knows who's watching
