The NATO 5 fundraiser Mon, Oct 29 at Multi Kulti, 1000 N. Milwaukee, 4th floor, 8:00 - 11:00 PM. The building has an elevator. Requested $7 donation. This is a fundraiser / Halloween party.
The NATO 5 have been in Cook County Jail for more than 5 months.

The Midwest Region is calls on all IVAW members, fellow service members, veterans, Chicagoans, and everyone who believes in justice, dignity, and respect for all peoples to join us in the streets on May 20th to demand that NATO immediately end the occupation of Afghanistan, bring U.S. war dollars home to fund our communities, and acknowledge the rights and humanity of all who are affected by these wars.
We wish to begin a process of justice and reconciliation with the people of Afghanistan and other affected nations, fellow service members, veterans, and the American people.

TELL NATIONAL GUARD TO STAND WITH THE PEOPLE

Iraq Veterans Against the War and its Afghanistan Veterans Against the War Committee will march with the multitudes in Chicago on May 20 to protest the NATO Summit. We are marching to stand up for human rights and against the failed policies of NATO's generals, especially the 11-year Afghanistan War.

Over 500 Illinois National Guard soldiers have been called up to supposedly provide additional security at the NATO Summit. The Illinois National Guard Deputy Director of Domestic Operations recently declared publicly that the Illinois National Guard will be "ready to provide support in the event of any problems in Chicago."

IVAW calls on all members of the Illinois National Guard that have already received mobilization orders to stand down and stand with fellow veterans and the 99% of the American people who are calling for an end to wars and for resources to be used rebuilding America.

Email Major General William L. Enyart, The Adjudant General of the Illinois National Guard, and tell him to stand WITH not AGAINST the people of Chicago and his fellow veterans. Respectfully urge him to refuse to deploy the Illinois National Guard against peaceful protesters.

Join the Occupy Chicago Labor Working Group for a unified union contingent on May 20 to send a strong message of opposition to the more than 50 heads of state at the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Summit May 20-21 in our city. NATO along with the U.S. are the main instigators of the ongoing military presence and over $522 billion spent on the endless war in Afghanistan! We need to stand up together and say "No More!" We are also in the worst worldwide economic crisis in decades with over 12.5 million people unemployed in the U.S. We need to put out a clear message to the Summit - we need money for jobs, not more of your war!

We are asking unions to bring their banners, members to wear their shirts, jackets or other union-identifying gear. Let's come all together to send a strong message to Mayor Rahm Emanuel, otherwise known as Mayor 1%, and all the attendees of the NATO Summit that their presence in Chicago is not acceptable to the labor movement. Emanuel is bringing the NATO Summit here to Chicago to the tune of $55 million dollars, while he is also vicious attacking public-sector teachers, nurses, and public transit workers and librarians, as well as closing schools, mental and public health clinics and slashing bus and train routes. What is happening here in Chicago is happening everywhere, we need to stand together in solidarity as unions against these attacks!

The Militant Labor Forum Presents:

"Working People Have No Use for Nuclear Bombs"

Working people should strongly oppose and condemn the relentless campaign of sanctions by Washington and its imperialist allies against Iran—a campaign of economic deprivation, unemployment and hunger designed to impose hardship on Iran’s working people in order to force Tehran to submit to imperialist dictates.

Iran, a country oppressed for centuries by imperialist domination, has every right to acquire the energy sources it needs, including nuclear power, used by most advanced nations, for economic and social advances.

Iran is a sovereign country that has been the target of Washington’s wrath since workers and farmers there overthrew the U.S.-backed monarchy in 1979 in a massive popular insurrection. It has every right to defend itself should that be necessary, and the working people in the U.S. have a fundamental class interest in supporting Iran in a confrontation with imperialism.

 

But the working class has no interest in possessing nuclear weapons, as Cuban leader Fidel Castro recently pointed out. Communists reject them outright as detrimental for the defense of national sovereignty and working people.
