CHICAGO CERTIFICATE CLASSES

Collective Bargaining

Wednesdays 6:00–8:00 pm, March 6 to April 3

Fee: $150.00

This class introduces the student to the process and content of collective bargaining. It addresses among other items the legal obligations to bargain, mandatory and permissible subjects of bargaining, types of bargaining relationships, styles of bargaining and takes the student thorough multiple stages of labor negotiations.  The class also examines the critical information necessary to bargain successfully. Students learn to analyze a contract, cost out a contract, develop a bargaining proposal, practice good table behavior, negotiating skills, how to use the caucus, keep records, and write appropriate contract language.

http://www.siptu.ie/bulletin/pdf/1303126596HETAC%20Course%202011-20...  For any trade unionists in Ireland, this level 6 HETAC Cert in Trade Union Studies is a must. Consists of 6 modules, each module consists of 10 nights X 3 hours. Exams, assignments & continuous assessment are how it is scored. Cert from The National College of Ireland. Tutors are top of their game, all trade union officials with decades of experience. New students can apply to join at the start of each module, dependent on places.

Chicago Teachers Win a Round on Longer Day, But Strike Planning Continues     

Member mobilization bore fruit Tuesday when Chicago teachers made Mayor Rahm "1%" Emanuel back down on demands for work longer hours. The victory comes as the longer school day has become all the rage among reformers, with corporate foundations and the Obama administration pushing it.
