Anarcho-syndicalism in the 20th Century - Vadim Damier

The complete online text of Vadim Damier's superb critical study of anarcho-syndicalism in the last century which reveals a history of struggle which has often been neglected but holds many valuable lessons for the present.

In PDF format. Published by Black Cat Press, we heartily recommend you buy a copy:http://www.blackcatpress.ca/anarcho-syndicalism.html

Just curious, how would most of you describe your syndicalism? Mine is influenced by anarchism.....and a strong belief that syndicalism (the idea) is usually the main form of struggle as workers rise or need effective means of struggle and organization "from below".

While I'm no marxist, the author Hobson wrote an article whose title I always liked because it summed up the organic nature of syndicalism ("Syndicalism without the syndicalists").

Couldn't have said it better.

Matthew wrote: "One of my friends (and fellow union members) is a socialist (member of the FSP). He, and other socialists, always criticize anarchists for not having a plan or realistic strategy/goals."

You know, it's sot of like the dog chasing its tail. When we present reasonable arguments, make constructive contributions, well, the authoritarian socialists says "That's pie-in-the-sky", "utopian" and other such stuff.  So, we'll never satisfy them...nor them us.

Sorry for adding some late comments to some of the postings.

Mikael... on an international  website devoted to anarcho-syndicalism, we have been trying to make http://www.anarchosyndicalism.net/index.php  a workable, contemporary site, but we need help.

http://www.unionbook.org/group/strike2012   Hi we wish solidarity to all beings.  Money and the nation states prevent our true solidarity, causing wars , environmental degradation, poverty and social inequality. Freedom and equality cannot exist within a capitalist system. On this note we invite and urge all people to support the Global Strike to Abolish Money

Attended a Labor Day picnic/rally in Wright Park, Tacoma, WA. Set up a table with another FW with Wobbly books and other materials which attracted a great deal of interest, except from most of the politicians. They were out in force trying to get Labor votes, and only a couple hit the mark. David Rovics performed to the great enjoyment of the crowd. IWW got the word out about alternative models of unionism, i.e. Syndicalism and Industrial Unionism, and had good discussions with other union people who thought we were dead and gone. We also told people about the real Labor Day, May 1st, and asked them to turn out next year for that. IWW got mentioned favorably in the Tacoma Weekly.
