Great article in the Christian Science Monitor about the role of Egypt's new labour unions in the continuing revolution: http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Middle-East/2011/0708/Key-force-in-T...

I hope that the Egyptian delegation to UK will be successful visit and will here from them face to face about their experience. Most of all we should give them our strong support to face the pro-state ETUF in isolating it internationally.

Wish I was there. But since I can't be, please let us have any videos, interviews, newspaper reports or your own take on the event.

Bruce, that's a very important meeting at a crucial time in the political development of the Egyptian Trade Unions.

Sorry, I been a way for a while following what is happening  here and there. But since we are focusing  on Egypt . and after we have heard about the pro-government trade union organization called ETUF president Megawer is detained for 15 days in prison for taking part of hiring slugs and killing the demonstrators in Tahrer square, and all the ETUF leaders along with its general trade unions leaders affiliates in strong support of former Mubarak regime, moreover their anti-democratic, anti-trade union rights and freedom of association, the continuation of attacking the new independent trade union federation and the minister of labor. I suggest that it is time to take immediate  action against ETUF internationally through international trade unions organizations  to really isolate that disgraceful federation, and we can start with the international labor organization "ILO" for not to invite any of ETUF leaders or its affiliates to attend the next ILO conference on June. or any international trade unions events.

Reports on first conference of Egypt's independent union federation at http://www.egyptworkersolidarity.org/?p=309 including an interview with the CTUWS international coordinator. Many workers involved in the strike wave are affiliating to the new federation.

Egypt Workers Solidarity was set up at a meeting of activists in London on February 17th. Egypt Workers Solidarity was set up at a meeting of activists in London on February 17th.

We have a website at http://www.egyptworkersolidarity.org which contains a lot of information about the Egyptian workers' movement as well as solidarity action around the world. I have just posted two videos which are particularly interesting:

One involves a number of interviews with striking workers at the Mahalla textile factory and footage of protests at ETUF HQ; the other an interview with labour lawyer Khalid Ali on the continuing strike wave and the role of workers in the overthrow of Mubarak.
We also have a statement at http://www.egyptworkersolidarity.org/?page_id=143 which has been signed by a number of leading British trade unionists. If you would like to add your signature, email egyptworkersolidarity@gmail.com
