Freeze Mubarak's stolen fortune

Sign the petition

To the G20 and other world leaders:

We call on you to immediately freeze any assets of the former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, his family, and his circle of friends and advisers -- so they can be investigated and returned to the Egyptian people; and to provide cooperation and assistance to Egyptian authorities under Article 51 of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.

Ira, Rohini and others:

I have a guilty feeling about using the Egypt group for general, longterm and theoretical discussion which should surely be taking place elsewhere. I have been therefore using my own blog for some such material.

I also set up a group on 'Reinventing Unionism...' which has not taken off. So I would now like to suggest that we set up a group with some such title as 'Reinventing the Labour Movement', where such discussions could be concentrated.

What do people think?

Production for use, not for profit.

It is very good that we support our friends especially workers in Egypt on their revolution and hope that they reach the right democracy in very near future, also we need to support the new born independent trade union federation to takeover the false reputation of the most corrupted state-controlled trade union federation called "ETUF" who's leader was a very close member to the ex-rolling party, his wealth is estimated to $500 million and his deputy is about $10 million. Such federation cannot represent workers anywhere. Therefore, we should take global action against,

Ira, I can't predict exactly how the international working class will abolish the wage system - I think the international working class will discover that for itself. But I can see some obstacles to that discovery that we can work to remove. One is the fact that the working class is divided in so many ways: by race/ethnicity, gender, religion, nationality, caste, status (formal vs informal, regular vs irregular), etc. etc. Working for solidarity across these divisions and abolition of some is one precondition. Second is the requirement for a minimum agreement on how much of what should be produced and how? Otherwise the capitalist law of value will continue to reign regardless of any capture of power. So there should be a wide-ranging discussion on this, which in turn requires some means of discussion (such as this forum), as well the democratic space to engage in it, which I think is what the Egyptian workers and others are fighting for.
