Some of the top American ISPs are moving ahead with a backroom deal to set up a "graduated response" system for addressing copyright infringement accusations. And while the major media groups had a say in how the policy was shaped, the millions of subscribers who will be affected by it were not invited to the table. The details of the agreement are not yet finalized, but the real danger is the framework that is now in place. Once the program launches on July 1, the media groups will be pressuring the ISPs to add harsher penalties. Click here to join EFF in demanding that the ISPs make a clear and public commitment that they won't use the "graduated response" program to cut their subscribers off of the Internet after "six strikes." The Internet is an increasingly important part of daily life for the millions of subscribers these ISPs represent. Springtime has released the pent up energy of the Occupy Chicago Movement and Southsiders for Peace has decided to join their kick-off event. 
At 1:00, Saturday, there will be a rally at LaSalle and Jackson, followed by  a march to Grant Park.  At Grant Park, there will be  stages set up for activities and discussions of topics relevant to the movement for peace and social justice.  Follow this link for more information:  www.occupychi.org.  Some members of Southsiders for Peace will be meeting on 103rd and Hale at 11:15 to take the 11:20 Metra.  Please try to join us there or at the events downtown.

Between February and May, we will discuss ideas for how to develop experimental, collective and situated actions that respond to the presence of NATO in Chicago (May 15-May 22, 2012). We are currently putting together a pamphlet to be released prior to the summit—it’s not too late to join us in this project!

The April 4 National Day of Action for Public Transportation was initiated by Occupy Boston and is supported by the Amalgamated Transit Union International (www.ATU.org). Actions are taking place in over 18 cities. In Chicago, ATU Local 241 is supporting the action along with Occupy Chicago, ANSWER Chicago, Little Village Environmental Justice Organization and NoCTAcuts.org.
Across the nation and in Chicago, transit funding and transit unions are under attack. The Emanuel administration's most recent attack against transit came in the form of a threat against workers. Outrageously, the city wants to eliminate work safety rules that save lives. The fat cats who run city hall also want to take $230 million out of the workers pockets over the next two years--all while the city continues to dole out huge tax breaks and subsidies to billionaire corporations like the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Boeing and United Airlines.

Representatives from the Save Our Clinics campaign will be at the next meeting of Southsiders For Peace. Please come to hear their story and join the fight for mental health services in our neighborhood. The next meeting is at 7:30 on Tuesday April 3 at the castle.
Urgent action is needed to stop the closing of Chicago mental health clinics.
Due to budget cuts, Chicago is planning on closing 6 of the 12 locally financed mental health clinics, including the one at 111th & Longwood. These closings would effect hundreds of our most vulnerable neighbors. Many have no medical insurance, SSI, Medicare, or MedicAid. Please help the Save Our Clinics campaign.

Considering that CTA changes bus/train schedules with some frequency, this might be something to consider in attracting ridership.  It's a monthly, ongoing topic at our meetings.
