We have a real shot at undoing Citizens United, and the Chamber of Commerce is freaking out.
Tell the new head of the SEC, Mary Jo White, to force corporations to disclose their political spending.

Please show your support for the journalists and staff at the Los Angeles Times who are willing to quit their jobs if Charles and David Koch purchase the newspaper. Click here to sign the petition.
Amidst news that the Koch brothers are considering purchasing at least five major Tribune Company newspapers -- including the Los Angeles Times, Baltimore Sun, Chicago Tribune, Orlando Sentinel and Hartford Courant -- the staff at these organizations are starting to fight back.
Here is a case in point. Last week, at an in-house awards ceremony for Los Angeles Times staff, columnist Steve Lopez asked everyone in attendance, "Raise your hand if you would quit if the paper was bought by the Koch brothers." Fully half of the staff raised their hands.
Bravery like this might doom the sale of the newspaper to the Kochs before it begins. A mass staff exodus would be a crushing blow to any news organization, costing it big time in terms of reputation, audience and production capacity.
It isn't easy to threaten to quit your job, though, and so we need make it clear that we have the backs of journalists who refuse to become mouthpieces for Koch brother propaganda.
Please, click here to sign our petition supporting the journalists and staff at the Los Angeles Times who are willing to quit their jobs if Charles and David Koch purchase the newspaper.

We can stop fracking in Illinios

Dear Illinois member,

In every state that big oil and gas companies target for fracking, the end result is the same—sickness and environmental devastation.

Take Pennsylvania for example. Five years ago, only a handful of fracking wells were drilled. Now that number has exploded to nearly 9,000.1

We've seen the same results in state after state. Once these big oil and gas companies get a foothold, it's nearly impossible to stop them—even if the environmental and health impact is massive. Now those same companies are trying to do in Illinois what they did in Pennsylvania and other states.

But together we can stop it from happening. MoveOn members throughout Illinois have created petitions asking their state legislators to put a moratorium on fracking until further studies can be done.

Linda Kowal, an Illinois MoveOn member who lives in Calumet City, started a petition asking your state legislator, Marcus C. Evans, Jr. to support a moratorium. We're planning to deliver these petitions to district offices all over the state later this month—but first we need to make sure lots of people in your area add your names.

The oil and gas companies are spending millions lobbying in Springfield, but a bill that would open up Illinois for fracking has stalled. And Speaker Michael Madigan is in favor of a moratorium on fracking while the environmental impact is studied.2

Only a few weeks remain in the legislative session. If enough of us speak out against fracking in Illinois right now we can stop the oil and gas companies from destroying our environment.

That's why it's important to sign onto this petition now and ask others in your community to sign as well.

Thanks for all you do.

Dear,

Sign our petition urging the White House to reject seismic airgun testing in the Atlantic!
With enormous risks to marine lives and human livelihoods, the time to act is now to reject seismic airgun testing in the Atlantic. Actor and Oceana board member Ted Danson has joined with Oceana to spearhead a White House petition urging President Obama to reject the use of seismic airguns to search for oil and gas in the Atlantic. We need 100,000 signatures before May 15, so we are calling on each of you to sign this petition, and to share the link with your friends and family and urge them to sign it as well. Gas and oil may be valuable, but the health and future of the Atlantic Ocean and the creatures that call it home are priceless. Sign the petition and tell Obama that the Atlantic’s dolphins and whales deserve better.

please join with Daily Kos and Campaign for America’s Future by telling your members of the House and Senate to fix the entire the sequester, not just the parts that annoy rich people. Click here to sign the petition.
At a time when the most vulnerable Americans are losing vital services like Meals on Wheels and Head Start because of the sequester, Congress has leaped into action to... prevent delays in air travel.
Last Friday, both the House and the Senate overwhelmingly passed legislation allocating more money to the Federal Aviation Administration, and then quickly left town on flights back to their home districts.
While timely air travel is important, it is certainly no more important than lunch for senior citizens or early childhood education for pre-schoolers.
Please join with Daily Kos and Campaign for America’s Future by telling your members of the House and Senate to fix the entire the sequester, not just the parts that inconvenience the wealthy.

The heroic whistleblower Bradley Manning was selected as an honorary grand marshal of this year's San Francisco Gay Pride Parade. But the president of the board of SF Pride, Lisa L. Williams, immediately reversed the decision -- announcing that someone responsible for it had been "disciplined" and that "even the hint of support" for Manning "will not be tolerated."
Click here to offer more than a hint of support.
Williams promoted the baseless and endlessly debunked claim that Manning endangered U.S. troops -- something that in fact the U.S. government does by keeping them in wars based on deception.
With enormous courage, Manning has enabled the world to see vast quantities of documents that reveal government falsehoods as well as human rights abuses and war crimes by the U.S. military.
It is crucial that the United States and the rest of the world know of our support for Manning's whistleblowing. He goes on trial June 3, facing life in prison. Already over 40,000 of us have signed a petition urging that Manning receive the Nobel Peace Prize for which he has been nominated.
We can now announce that RootsAction will deliver the petition and all the names on it, in person, to the Nobel committee in Oslo, Norway. You can sign now and add your comments.
