Rise up singing!

There is a union music group on the "old" UnionBook site, so I thought I'd start one here too. Discussion of singers and songs of struggle, solidarity, and social justice.

My tastes are pretty eclectic, Nathan, everything from classical to rock to folk to old-time ... fave performers on my chosen instrument are Jean Ritchie and the late David Schnaufer, as well as his star pupil Cyndi Lauper. Billy Bragg, Utah Phillips, Eve Goldberg ...

Hey Folks: Great to know that there's folks here who are into union and social justice music. I'm a musician in Eugene--I play with a working-class folk band called the Low Tide Drifters. What's everyone listening to these days?

So: I'm a member of Friends of the Mountain Dulcimer, also hosted on Ning. Ning has different rules about linking videos and .mp3s than UnionBook 1's servers do. They have copyright restrictions etc. If you want to link to a Youtube video of e.g. Billy Bragg that is all right; if you want to upload a video to Ning's own servers you'd better be darned sure you have the permission of the copyright owner, if you are not that person.
With that in mind, I shall link a couple of Billy's vids.

Hurray! Spent last Friday night singing old '30s workers' songs with mates. Sadly we're in Plymouth, England so can't come to the Chorus meeting.

For those who live in the Greater Toronto Area, Common Thread Chorus are starting our 12th season of song in about 2 weeks. We are short of male voices this year. Come help us change the world, on song at a time.
