Rocky Mountaineer has not come to the bargaining table since July 8th 2011.
Now they are re-hiring scabs from last season and advertising to hire more.
Rocky Mountaineer has filed and won many court injunctions. Security is constantly filming and using video evidence to try to limit picket activities. We thank you in advance for helping us to ensure a peaceful rally which secures the right to maintain our picket line.

Locked out Rocky Mountaineer employees will be leafleting and talking with students at colleges and university campuses, helping to raise awareness of labour issues. Rocky Mountaineer is hiring another round of scabs for this upcoming season.

Former SGEU employees protest pension cut

Retired former employees of the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union protest a pension cut in Regina on Wednesday.

Dozens of retired former employees of the SGEU held a protest in Regina on Wednesday after the union said they would have to take a big cut to their pensions.

The Saskatchewan Government and General Employees Union and former workers met with a mediator in February and had agreed to an initial pension decrease. But retirees now say they've been told that amount will be doubled.

The change in pension benefits is a big blow for former workers living on a fixed income. They say they're' considering further legal action, and calling for legislation that would see pensions protected in Saskatchewan.

The SGEU says lower annuity rates are to blame, and that the union has already subsidized the pension plan. However, premium rates are still much lower than it had anticipated.

As I near retirement I have learned: a boss is a boss is a boss.  It's all a function of perspective, vanity, self interest, integrity, courage, and ambition.  It has less to do with politics than with character.  Being a boss can do crappy things to your head.  The only true cure is workers with a voice on the job.  That's why we need staff unions.

Blaine I think a local can get all those things without giving away as many of their dues dollars as a national or international would charge them or what forming one of those would cost. The voice in the labor movement is around that afl-cio table as a VP so no matter what you do its unlikely you will get there unless you bring a few hundred thousand members in with you and you are invited. Union Staff have lots of power but thats not where it lies.
