Oh the irony, or is it hypocrisy?
After many months of a grueling campaign in which CSEA members and staff railed against Meg Whitman’s gubernatorial run because of her platform of cutting wages, healthcare and pensions, not to mention implementing furlough days for State workers what does Josie Mooney propose for her staff? Yep you guessed it, cutting wages, healthcare and pensions, and implementing furlough days. She has obviously read and learned the lessons of the ‘Shock Doctrine’ and plans to implement them throughout CSEA. See CSEA’s proposal to its staff here www.aeu.us .
In the last few months there has been more retirement and resignations of staff in CSEA than ever before in such a short period of time. A lot of our good field staff are leaving to work for other Unions because they can see the writing on the wall. They don’t wish to work for a “business union” whose leaders have called for more labor-management cooperation and dismiss the value of union democracy.
Ultimately the question comes down to what kind of Union do we want CSEA to be, who do we want to lead this Union and who will decide?
