Privatization & politicians

The ultimate aim is to privatise all the public services. The more effective way of doing it is by the back door. The NHS has started the "personalisation" process in mental health. Your can receive…Continue

I am delighted to join this group. This is just typical of this so called Coalition of the Greedy.Privatise everything and when it goes wrong let the Public pay for it.

The CWU have submitted an emergency motion to the TUC in Manchester to call for support for the anti privatisation campaign. See live coverage of the debate which should be today, on the BBC Parliament channel or via the TUC website at www.tuc.org.uk

Adrian Roberts front page article headlined "CWU Vows to Bury Royal Mail Sell Off" in todays Morning Star UK newspaper reports a factual position on this issue. Also the editorial in the same edition titled "Here We Go Yet Again" offers a positive critique. You can have a look at www.morningstaronline.co.uk

Almost in all countries, privatisation turns out to be the biggest threat glaring on the face of working class. In India, despite opening up, we have been successful in thwarting efforts of privatising public sector insurance companies for the last two decades, but still the threat looms large. But our workers are determined to carry on our struggle. As pioneers of anti privatisation struggle in India, we join your struggle and extend our solidarity to your fight against privatisation.

The struggle against privatization is a very important struggle no matter what country it takes place in because privatization is part of the scheme being used by the G-8/G-20 to attack all public service programs. Big capital aims for complete control of everything. In solidarity!

My union in Switzerland, Communications Union, on Sept 2 submitted a petition calling for a national referendum to allow the peopler to vote for a Post Office which constutionally must be run as a universal giving access to everyone and maintaining a nationwide network of offices. Under Swiss law the referendum will take place. The union collected 120,000 signatures ( equivalent to about 1 million in UK). So eventually in the long term will decide for a Postal SERVICE as Keith rightly says. But I do not suppose in UK the government will ask the people whatvthey want.

Keep the Royal Mail public. The mail service here in Ireland is under the same type of attack from the Government and unreliable private mail services. The only Bank in Ireland not involved in wholesale fraud, Postbank, was closed down last month.

The Daily Telegraph, september 4, that a report commissioned by the government, will be released next week saying Royal Mail must be privatized to preserve universal service. It will say there is a need for private investment and expertise because the royal Mail is faced with record falls in traffic and a huge pension deficit.

But where is the logic. to get private investment , investors must be convinced that it will be possible to make a profit. That's why they invest.

But if it is possible to make a profit , why privatize?

There may be ideological reasons to privatize even if we do not share them but the economic argument is a nonsense.

What will the government do with the Hooper report? It was originally Lord Mandelson who asked for the report. Can the con deems be sen to be supporting Mandy?
