“Alberta’s Radical Past”
Poster 3 in our "Alberta's Radical Past" poster series recalls one of the seminal moments of the early alberta labour movement, the 1932 Edmonton Hunger March.
The poster describes the profound level of despair and anger of average Albertan's who were suffering through the Great Depression with little or no government supports. Thousands of unemployed men and women rallied in edmonton's market square to voice their frustration. The following is an excerpt from the poster text which describes this historic event:
“There were people gathered. People wanted jobs. People wanted decent conditions for their families. None of us could understand why people were starving in a big beautiful half empty country. We couldn’t understand.”
