Hi there,

I reckon we should do a little task to get the group familiar with what exactly these things are all about. Something along the lines of...

In groups of 3-4 have a look at two of the print-outs of IFAs provided and discuss:

- What the agreements cover...and what they don't;
- Why you think the TNC agreed to it;
- Whether local affiliates are likely to be happy with it. If 'yes' in some countries but 'no' in others, why the difference?
- What you would advise the GUF to strive to do next/

What d'you reckon? I could print off and bring along an assortment of (shorter) IFAs. Thought it also might break up the one-way lecturing for 15 mins or so.

Hi everyone. Some bad news to start the week. The Healy Group is now down to 5 members as I've decided to throw in the towel. I've a lot of stuff going on right now, too much for me to handle, and something had to give before I lost the plot completely. After a lot of thought, I came to the conclusion that the MA was adding to my problems rather than proving a distraction from them, so I'm calling it a day before I get too far in. I've already let Ian know. I'm really sorry if this mucks you all about for the workshop assignment, but better now than potentially letting you all down when things start to really get pressured. I wish you all well for the course and hope my withdrawl at this early stage will at least prove less problematic than had I prevaricated and left it until we became too dependent on each other as a group. Once again, apologies. Peace and love, Gerry

Yes. Let's have all discussion here and use the particular day ones just to post the summaries and directly-related comments.

Emailed Julian the rading list for him a week or so ago but not heard since.

I've also just realised I never replied to you message, re:organising. I know noot about Unite. Despite being a member...

I can't remember the exact essay title but the gist is "Compare Union Strategies between two countries" - and I'm doing UK and Spain. Actually I'm struggling a bit if anyone has any advice about resources - preferably not in Spanish!

Is anyone else finding the fact that we have messages in different places (ie in the Discussion Forums (above), on the Comment Wall (here) and by email (there!) difficult to follow?

Also, any sign of Julian ?

Chapette and Chaps,

Has everyone decided on what essay they are going to do? If so, we can decide on our seminar topic for the next two workshops accordingly so as to be efficient on the reading...

You all dig?

I want to do:

12. Identify the forces in the global economy that are shaping the international migration of labour/

What are you thinking?

Hi there,

Apologies for the lack of response. I hope to post summaries within the next few days. Emailed Ian about which asssignment we should do and he said that essentailly we can pick from either the essay list as initially thought or the seminar tasks at the end of the reading lists.

What do we think of that?

Gerry, how about putting this question on the Ruskin group. Other SSGs are supposed to read Riisgard. I don't think Ian would have put it up if there was a charge.

Is anyone else having any luck with the library. I'm spending too much time following links

Helen :)

Hi Everyone,

Houston, I have a problem.
I have tried several times to access the Riisgard article through the Ruskin library link, but each time I do, I get a message asking if I wish to purchase it.
Does anyone know how I can access the article for free or do we have to pay for stuff we want from the library?

Thanks

Gerry

Sorry folks forgot to say, but it looks like I am going to be struggling to get my summaries up for Monday. My workload is through the roof at the moment, i am hopeful of getting them done for next week at some point. I'm really sorry, but if theres anything positive about it we have a 5 week lead in to the next weekend.

Hope this is ok.

Cheers
Gus
