Manrico

I can understand that you might want to direct and concentrate discussion on your Charter where it is easier for folk to read and respond to it.

I am just wondering whether this necessarily requires abandoning UnionBook. There are here, as you know, at least two spaces in which the future of the labour movement might be discussed - those of Orsan and of myself.

I am myself wondering how to actually develop such spaces and am aware that so far they have been so developed primarily by items pasted respectively by Orsan and myself! So there is clearly a challenge here.

And I am hoping that AAWL, or, for that matter, Sigtur, will contribute to such efforts on UBook.

Hi Manrico. "Build it and they will come" doesn't work on the Net anymore. My advice would be to further define what you are using both FB and UnionBook for. I'm one of the huge number that have burnout with union acronyms. "AAWL" means nothing to me. Almost by definition, it's only going to attract a small, loyal, national following: those that wish to signal support for your work. My prediction (sadly, based on experience) is that you'll find FB fails your expectations as well. There are just too many soapboxes, even for the most gabby of us! However, a targeted conversation on a specific subject, one which really requires international labour participation, is ideally suited to UnionBook. I've got some research on this - you're welcome to email.

Time to leave UnionBook ?

Hello comrades

We are considering shutting down our AAWL at UnionBook Group and moving our discussions about the Global Labour Movement Charter to our AAWL at facebook page.

The reason is that many comrades have said it is hard to get into UnionBook, and that it is hard to navigate and use.

It is clear that our AAWL at UnionBook discussion page on the Global Labour Movement Charter has had minimal participation, however there is a great deal of interest on this document in real life discussions.

If you have any opinions it would really help to hear them. We have received important proposed amendments to the Global Labour Movement Charter and we also intend to link it to a new International Industrial Action & Solidarity document which is being prepared for publication.

Having a real international discussion to develop joint documents is important, and we need to find the best place to achieve this.

In solidarity

Don't let the USA Mission in East Timor get away with sacking a unionist and denying his rights to join and to pursue a grievance. Support him and his union, the General Workers Union of East Timor (Timor-Leste).

Click here http://www.apheda.org.au/news/1292392280_5782.htmlfor more information, and the letter of protest / demand on the USA mission.
