The Campaign often gets questions about Pepsi (In fact, some accuse us of taking money from Pepsi). Our position has been that schools and unions removing Coke should look into independent and local beverage companies to replace Coke. On our site at http://www.Killercoke.org, we have a growing list of alternatives to Coke. If anyone has any others to offer, please let us know. Unfortunately, Coke often buys those companies out -- such as Odwalla, Fuze, and 40% of Honest Tea. We've then deleted them from our alternatives list.

Matthew: This is the second major settlement that Coke was involved in for racial discrimination.

Re: Pepsi. I think they have had a much better record in hiring minorities for executive positions. There's a site called the Responsible Shopper set up by Co-op American with analyses of corporations.:

I think it show that on most issues, Coke is the worst, Cadbury Schweppes the least worst and Pepsi somewhere in the middle.

That's great news. I just wanted to ask if you consider Coke to be a special case, or just a good example what many corporations (like maybe Pepsi) are up to.

The Campaign to Stop Killer Coke just received a news release:

US Labor Department settles discrimination case with 2nd-largest Coca-Cola bottler in the nation
http://blog.carlairwininc.com/?p=199
"CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated has agreed to pay $495,000 in back wages and interest to 95 African-American and Hispanic job seekers who applied in 2002 for sales support positions at the company’s Black Satchel Road distribution facility in Charlotte. The settlement follows an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs."

That's the one. So, what do you think of Pepsi in terms of its use of progressive causes for PR?

Hi Mathew! Perhaps you mean the New York Times story published on 1st Oct. 2010 about the complaint by Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation. If it is so, HERE IS THE STORY.

Or maybe I'm just linking wrong...

Looks like Unionbook doesn't allow links: The thing I'm asking about is the Progressive Slate in the Pepsi Refresh contest. Interestingly enough, I found a story about how a cancer group complained about the Progressive Slate being unfair competition (a political machine, etc.).

What do you think of ? I'm getting these e-mails asking me to vote on NPOs' activities to get money from Pepsi. I'm naturally suspicious of helping a Pepsi PR thing...
